The design

The trick of the design is where the trail meets the paper: the lines a kid would normally write notes on become the same lines the trail is drawn with, so the paper and the mountain path are literally the same object. It is a small visual joke that says the real notes get taken outside the classroom, not inside a binder.

It is a small enough trick that most kids will not spot it right away, but once they do it tends to stick. Parents get it immediately, which makes this one of the designs that starts a conversation instead of ending it.

The shirt

Built on a Rabbit Skins 3321 toddler jersey tee. It is 100 percent combed ring-spun cotton, with Ash at 99 percent cotton and Heather at 90 percent, in a lighter 4.5 oz per square yard. Combed and ring-spun means the short fibres are taken out and the rest are twisted fine, which is what makes a cheap cotton tee feel scratchy and this one feel soft. On a toddler that is the difference between a shirt they wear and a shirt they fight about.

Side-seamed rather than tubular, so it keeps a proper shape instead of twisting round the body after a few washes. Double-needle stitching on the sleeves and bottom hem, which is the construction detail that decides whether a hem survives a toddler or unravels by October.

Colours

Available in black, navy, white, light blue, hot pink and heather. On a toddler tee the colour choice is usually a practical decision rather than a style one, and the mid and darker tones take a dropped lunch far better than white does. Sizing

Sized 2, 3, 4 and 5/6 to standard toddler sizing. Take the size that matches now. The chest measurements run from roughly 20 inches at size 2 up to 30 inches at 5/6. If your child is between sizes, the larger one works fine because the cut is relaxed rather than fitted, and toddlers grow through a size faster than a shirt wears out.

Care

Machine wash cold, inside out, with similar colours. Tumble dry low or hang to dry. No bleach and no fabric softener, both of which break down a print faster than washing does. Cool iron on the reverse if it needs it, and never directly on the graphic. Handled this way the print outlasts the fit, which on a growing child is the only durability test that matters.
